English liquorice powder for beer brewing

English liquorice powder provides a distinct, sweet and spicy liquorice flavour. The powder form is easy to distribute in the wort and offers a different use compared to cut liquorice root.

It is especially suited to dark beer types, where the liquorice character can play alongside roasted malts, caramel and other spices.

How to use

Add the powder according to the recipe, for example during the final stage of boiling. The liquorice flavour can quickly become overpowering, so start with a moderate amount and adjust to the desired intensity.

The powder can first be stirred into a little warm wort or water to ensure an even distribution.
