Medium-toasted French oak chips

French oak typically provides a more subdued and nuanced oak character than American oak. The medium roasting can contribute notes of vanilla, spice, toasted wood, light caramel, and a structuring tannin sensation.

The chips provide a larger contact surface than an oak barrel and can therefore impart flavour relatively quickly. They can be used in beer, cider, wine and spirits where an oak character is desired without actual barrel ageing.

How to use

Add according to the recipe in a clean and suitable container. The contact time depends on the beverage, the quantity and the desired intensity. Taste regularly during extraction and remove the chips when the oak character is appropriate.

Start with a moderate amount. It is easier to extend the contact time than to remove an excessive wood or tannin character.
